BEAUFORT - More than 100 members of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) in the Beaufort district have joined Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS), claiming they have lost confidence in the party’s leadership and struggle.
Saidi @ Masden Kasneh, former chief of Warisan’s Kamarabau branch, said he and other former members will continue their political struggle with PHRS instead.
“Apart from losing faith in the Warisan leadership, especially in our division, we are also frustrated with the party leaders’ disrespect towards members who helped them a lot,” he said.
“Therefore, we decided to join PHRS led by son of this district Lajim Ukin,” he said during a ceremony to welcome former Beaufort Warisan members to PHRS today.
Also present was Lajim, who is PHRS president and Sabah state assembly opposition leader.
Saidi claimed that Warisan, led by former Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal, did not receive support from the grassroots especially in Beaufort.
“Each time we campaigned, we found that not many people in Klias (Lajim’s state constituency) and Lumadan were supporting the party.
“In fact, the people always said they would root for local leaders, especially those born in Beaufort,” he said.
Saidi said he and other members vowed to stand behind PHRS in fighting for the rights of Sabahans, particularly in the district.
Meanwhile, Lajim said PHRS was always open to anyone from any ethnic group to champion the rights of Sabahans, especially under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“We know that when we have our home, we can do anything without help from anyone” he said.
“I and other PHRS leaders will keep striving to ensure Sabahans’ rights are upheld and to reduce their hardships.”
Warisan is a standalone party in Sabah while PHRS is a member of the Gabungan Sabah coalition which also consists of Sabah Progressive Party, Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku.
