Shafie Apdal questioned again by MACC

KOTA KINABALU - Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Shafie Apdal was questioned again by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here today in what was said to be a probe into another alleged corruption case.

Warisan vice-president Junz Wong told FMT the questioning had finished early afternoon and Shafie would probably fly to Kuala Lumpur later today to attend the Dewan Rakyat session.

Wong said he would give details on the nature of the case when he learned more about it.

NST, citing an MACC source, said the questioning was related to a Universiti Malaysia Sabah project.

Shafie, a former federal rural and regional development minister, was released from remand on bail last month in an MACC investigation into alleged embezzlement of RM1.5 billion in rural development funds for Sabah.

His family members, including Lahad Datu Umno assemblyman Yusof Apdal as well as Warisan vice-president Peter Anthony and Youth chief Azis Jamman, were also arrested and later released on bail in the same case.

It was earlier reported that the MACC was scrutinising 72 out of 350 projects carried out by the rural and regional development ministry for suspected embezzlement of funds.

The projects were planned to be carried out between 2009 and 2015 in Kota Kinabalu, Kudat, Kota Belud, Ranau, Beaufort, Keningau, Lahad Datu, Tawau and Sandakan.

The RM1.5 billion was said to be part of RM7.5 billion allocated for water, electricity and road infrastructure development projects.
